Over Sea, Under Stone - Book 5, 52 in 52

Over Sea, Under Stone by Susan Cooper is the first of five books in a fantasy series called The Dark is Rising Sequence.  Barney, Jane, and Simon Drew and their parents are spending the summer in a rented home in Cornwall, England with their mysterious Great Uncle Merry.  While exploring they discover an ancient map in the attic of the house and their adventure begins.  Suddenly they find themselves part of a greater struggle between the forces of light and dark, and with the help of their great uncle they begin their quest to find the grail before it can fall into the wrong hands.

The story is a delightful read for ages 10 and up.  While it is classified as Young Adult fantasy in my library, there are a sufficient number of twists and turns in the plot to keep the interest of adult readers as well.  I enjoyed it enough that the next four books in the series are now sitting in my library crate waiting for me to finish up my lesson plans for the upcoming week.  My 11 year old enjoyed it enough to read it at least 3 times last week.  (I had to keep asking for her to return it so I could read some more.)  Definitely adding this one to my list of books for the whole family to read.

Sounds like a book series my ten-year old daughter would enjoy. I'm going to mention it to her and see if it's available at the library. Thanks for suggesting it!

Stopping in from the 52 books site.

This is my favorite series from when I was a child so I had to stop in and see what you thought. The other books are just as good, hope you enjoy them!

Oops, I left the comment above but somehow hit publish before leaving my name.

I'll also say I loved these books so much that we ended up going to Cornwall for our honeymoon. :)
